"Syncretism. On one side, extreme contemporaneity, innovation, Italian-made brands. On the other, the prestige of antiquity, the styles and traditions of our history—humble and noble materials like wood, which has stood the test of time.”
In the video I directed for Pilkelab, I chose to highlight the tactile essence of materials—an element that is also central to the studio’s design philosophy.
Pilkelab is a space that blends creativity, architecture, design, graphic art, and marketing. The materials used are not just functional—they’re fundamental to its identity.
Each raw material is respected for what it is: not destroyed, but transformed in a way that preserves its nature and gives it prominence.
I was drawn to the idea of letting materiality speak to all the senses, especially through the emotions and sensations evoked by touch. Warm or cold, smooth or rough—each material carries an emotional language that’s felt not just physically, but psychologically as well.
The soundtrack, composed specifically for the project by Zebra Sound, merges seamlessly with this concept—translating the feel of each material into a sonic texture that makes the space feel soft, fluid, and inviting. The result is a video that becomes a full sensory experience, creating a connection with the natural origins of every material featured.
