About

Who I am

I’m Lorenzo — director, photographer and writer.

I’d love to call myself a minstrel or storyteller, but I don’t sing or play an instrument, so I stick to writing. I work with a creative and multidisciplinary approach, exploring different languages and combining techniques to bring to life projects that merge visual storytelling, artistic research, and expressive depth. I’ve always loved genre stories — they shaped me — but what I enjoy even more is blending them, crossing their borders, breaking their dogmas. Much like narrative structures: invaluable, no doubt, but sometimes tearing them down is part of the fun.

My vision is rooted in ongoing experimentation, combining cinema, photography, writing, and other expressive forms to create immersive visual narratives. Every project is an opportunity to explore new perspectives and redefine how stories are told.

In parallel, I teach audiovisual language, communication theory, photography, and video at Milano Tattoo School, focusing not only on practical and technical knowledge, but on the importance of developing personal projects and creative voices.

Education

If you asked me as a kid what I wanted to be when I grew up, I’d probably have said ‘a thief’ — I was obsessed with Lupin III.
Luckily, I was also drawn to writing and drawing, which eventually took over. I scribbled stories on the margins of school notebooks, sketched odd creatures and characters on restaurant placemats (the paper ones — I wasn’t a vandal, not entirely), and imagined who they might be. Drawing and cinema — which took over most of my mind in the early 2000s — ended up deciding for me.

I started studying Architecture and Design at the Liceo Artistico Bruno Cassinari graduating with a thesis on The Lord of the Rings between cinema and literature. I then continued at NABA in Milan, where I graduated with highest honors with a thesis on historical cinema, focusing especially on how the Middle Ages are portrayed on screen. This path gave me a solid foundation in visual and narrative language, and pushed me to explore various media and expressive techniques, encouraging me to go deeper in my personal development.

Professional experience

I work mainly as a director and photographer, moving between documentary and more constructed, evocative imagery. Alongside this, I develop narrative writing projects.
My experience ranges from independent short films to documentary photography, commercial spots to more personal and experimental projects.
At Milano Tattoo School, my teaching goes beyond traditional instruction. I chose not to stick to a single program or universal method: instead, I offer a practical and analytical approach, helping students develop their own style and visual language in video and photography.
Teaching also allows me to continually refine my own language and share a deeper awareness of image and narrative with my students.

Photography

My photography has a strong material and documentary quality, with particular attention to reportage.
Every project stems from immersion in the context I want to portray, and even when the approach is more aesthetic or experimental, I never lose sight of the narrative.
My background as a director and my urge to tell stories drive me to seek images that are never static, but full of emotion, story, and lived moments.

Directing & video

My main focus is narrative fiction: film and television are the fields where I want to grow and gain experience.
I also take on commercial projects, events, and content for social platforms, always aiming to blend creativity and authorship, and to represent the entrusted reality in the best possible way.
While I work primarily as a director, over time I’ve gained extensive experience in cinematography, assistant directing, editing, and videomaking.
This allows me to maintain a comprehensive view of the production process and engage with many of its aspects directly.

Writing

Storytelling is the thread that ties all my work together. I love listening, imagining, and building stories. This passion fuels my commitment to writing — not just as a personal expression, but as an integral part of my professional work.
In many of the projects I lead, I handle the creative and narrative aspects, writing scripts and helping define tone and language. I aspire to work as a screenwriter and welcome every chance to test myself in that field.
Writing through images feels like a natural extension of my gaze: it’s where every project begins.
In parallel, I pursue narrative writing projects, freely exploring themes, genres, and languages that nurture my personal research.

Poetics & vision

My work is driven by the need to tell stories, explore contexts, and reflect on human change over time. Context, vision, narrative, and a human approach are central to what I do.
History — especially the Middle Ages — holds a particular place in my perspective and often influences how I look at the present. In my projects, context is the true protagonist: a force that shapes events, while characters are passing elements — simple, anonymous figures that gain meaning by being part of something larger.

I strongly believe in understanding people, brand, or world behind every project. Each collaboration begins with study and listening, which allows me to translate identities and visions into coherent, visual storytelling.

Closing notes & future directions

My creative journey is a continuous one. Each project is a new opportunity to explore forms, experiment with language, and search for fresh perspectives and ways of storytelling.

I’m also part of Zebra Sound Srlb, a Milan-based company active in creative direction, video production, and music for film and audiovisual projects. In addition to its production work, Zebra Sound runs an Academy focused on music education, with an eye toward new interdisciplinary paths and teaching models.
